Outreach Programs

Let us bring the wonder of The Magic House to you! These outreach experiences allow the Museum educators to bring creative, hands-on learning experiences ranging from art and literature to science and engineering to your students. Outreach programs are offered throughout the year, with some summer opportunities available. Rates are determined by the program selected and number of sessions presented. Fees are based on schools within a 25-mile radius of The Magic House. If beyond this distance, please add $1.50 per mile.

STEAM / STEM Programs

Preschool STEAM Programs include:

  • Shape Cityscapes – Featuring the story City Shapes by Diana Murray
  • Symmetrical Butterflies and Caterpillar Creations – Featuring the story Becoming Charley by Kelly DiPucchio
  • Web Block Printing – Featuring the story Walter’s Wonderful Web by Tim Hopgood
  • Winter Snowscapes – Featuring the story I’m Going to Build a Snowman by Jashar Awan
  • Match and More with The Three Little Pigs – Explore the world of The Three Little Pigs

Elementary STEM Programs include:

  • $125 (one session)
  • $150 (two sessions)
  • $175 (three sessions)

Size limit: Maximum 25 students

A Little Bit of STEAM

Early Childhood/Preschool

This interactive program brings parents and children together after school for hands-on discovery while exploring basic science, technology, engineering, art and math activities.

Program Cost: $300
Program Length: 45 minutes
Size Limit: Maximum 50 students and their accompanying adults

Make it Magic Events - Outside of School Hours

Team up with The Magic House for your next school family event! The Magic House offers a unique traveling program that is perfect for fairs, outdoor festivals, STEAM nights and more. Each offering includes hands-on experiences and a Magic House staff member who will assist from start to finish.

Make-It Magic

Make-It Magic invites children to put their do-it-yourself skills to the test. A variety of hands-on experiences are curated based on the details of the event.

  • Design and build a catapult from household items to launch balls into the air
  • Explore the power of air with our Mini Bernoulli Blower
  • Prototype a parachute to fly in the wind tunnel
  • Cut and fold a paper whirlybird to make some wings and watch it fly
  • Create a unique image to turn into a jigsaw puzzle
  • … And so much more!

Festivals Around the World

This program invites children and families to celebrate festivals and cultural traditions from across the globe. From China’s Spring Festival to India’s Diwali Festival of Light, children will interact with real cultural artifacts that inspire creative projects to take home as they learn how people celebrate around the world. Festivals can be selected based on the time of year or theme of the event.

Some activities include:

  • Construct a paper lantern in celebration of China’s Spring Festival
  • Create a diya, or candle holder, in celebration of India’s Diwali Festival of Light
  • Design a mask like those worn throughout Italy during Carnivale season

Program Cost:

  • $250 for a two-hour visit
  • $75 for each additional hour

*Not-for-profit organizations, Title-1 schools, and partners of The Magic House can request that fees be waived. Only a limited number of free community events are available.

Shape Cityscapes

  • Featuring the story City Shapes by Diana Murray, young children will discover the shapes that build the world around them while creating work of art infused with math concepts. In this classroom experience, children will design their own vibrant cityscape using inkpads, stamps, and oil pastels.

Symmetrical Butterflies and Caterpillar Creations 

  • Featuring the story Becoming Charley by Kelly DiPucchio, young children will explore the life cycle of a butterfly. Following the story, students will tap into math and art skills to create pattern caterpillars and symmetrical watercolor wings.

Web Block Printing

  • Featuring the story Walter’s Wonderful Web by Tim Hopgood, young children will examine the lines and shapes created by a spider’s web. Utilizing unique shape stamps and paint dotters, students will print their own wonderful webs and count together to create eight-legged critters!

Winter Snowscapes

  • Featuring the story I’m Going to Build a Snowman by Jashar Awan, young children will mix up some fun while predicting the ways that colors combine and change. With their wintery sky complete students are sure to have so much fun!

Math and More with The Three Little Pigs

  • It’s big fun for little learners! Children will explore the world of the Three Little Pigs to discover the simple math concepts of counting and size order.
Elementary STEM Programs include:

Storytime Structures (Kindergarten – Grade 2)

  • This classroom program uses children’s books as the catalyst to innovative thinking as they build their own LEGO creations to solve a problem they encounter in the story. This program features grade-level specific challenges designed to support Missouri grade-level specific expectations.

Measuring with Jack (Kindergarten – Grade 1)

  • Fee Fi Fo Fum! The giant dropped some of his prized belongings down the beanstalk. Students will use their measurement and non-standard measurement skills to figure out which items need to be returned.

Introduction to Design Challenge (Grades 1 – 5)

  • This classroom program begins with an introduction to the design thinking process. Then the fun begins as students work through a series of challenges utilizing simple materials such as cups, blocks and sticks.
